Artist statement
Ben Walmsley is a documentary landscape photographer based in the South West of England. He focuses on environments that have changed recently or are changing. With a background in the Scout movement, his work has involved working with young people in Scout groups to show the sense of belonging they have from these groups. More recently, Ben has moved into working around environmental issues facing the UK’s river systems. He aims to have a better connection to the landscape by spending more time in the space. Speaking to professionals within the field he is photographing, and underpinning his photographs with information about the topic, means that Ben can create well-informed and powerful images.
