Artist statement

Sanika Divekar is a contemporary ceramicist based in Bath, UK, whose work delves into the relationship between humanity and the Earth, particularly in the Anthropocene. Drawing from her Indian heritage, she creates Matkas – traditional water vessels symbolizing the Earth’s fragility and resilience. Through marking, tearing, and healing clay, she reflects humanity’s impact on nature, mirroring how waste reshapes our world. Her fascination with materials like Plastiglomerates, formed by fusing plastics and natural sediments, invites viewers to consider their connection with the environment. A graduate of Bath Spa University, Sanika has exhibited at the Holburne Museum, sharing her narrative-driven creations.
