Sapphire Henriksen is a socially-engaged, interdisciplinary artist specialising in ceramics and textiles. She uses kitschy femme aesthetics in a craft-based practice. Her focus is on creating solo objects and large scale interactive installations that hold a comfortable space for discomfort. Henriksen interrogates traditional and contemporary narratives around gender, class and labour. She communicates with her audience using a visual dialect that reflects her own experiences and perspective. Her upbringing on traveller sites is the foundation from which she works. By both embracing and subverting her chosen aesthetics, she aims to create work that invites dialogue and self-reflection.
