Sujata Bharti is a fine artist whose practice explores themes of visibility, invisibility, and identity, particularly concerning marginalised women. Rooted in India’s socio-political landscape, her work engages with materials such as henna, fuller’s earth, red ochre, stone pigments, wheat flour, and discarded textiles. Through labour-intensive processes – mark-making, layering, stitching, and deconstruction – her abstract collages reflect on materiality and the traces left by the body. Bharti’s work has been exhibited internationally, and she has received awards including the Royal Commonwealth Bath and District Award (UK, 2023).
